Privacy policy
What this site collects, which is analytics and nothing else
This page describes what Business Name Vault collects when you visit, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read rather than to be thorough at your expense, so it is short.
What this site does not collect
There are no accounts on this site, no sign-in, no newsletter and no contact form. Nothing here asks for your name, your email address, or any payment detail, and there is nowhere for you to enter one.
The name generator and the shortlist run entirely in your browser. Names you generate, and names you save to a shortlist, are never sent to this site or stored on a server. They exist in the page you have open and they are gone when you close it.
What this site does collect
This site uses Google Analytics 4 to measure how it is used: which pages are visited, roughly where in the world visitors are, which browser and device they use, and which site or search sent them. This is standard web analytics and it is used to decide what to write next.
Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and processes data including your IP address. Google is the data controller for that processing. Its own privacy policy, at policies.google.com/privacy, sets out how it handles that data, and its partner-site terms, at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, cover sites such as this one.
This site also carries verification tags for Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Those are inert markers that confirm ownership. They set no cookies and collect nothing.
Cookies
The only cookies this site sets are the Google Analytics ones described above. There are no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels from social networks, and no third-party scripts beyond Google Analytics and the Google Fonts stylesheet the pages use for type.
How to opt out
- Google publishes a browser add-on, at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, that blocks Analytics on every site you visit.
- Most browsers can block third-party cookies or all cookies from this site, in their own settings.
- Any standard content blocker will stop the analytics script loading at all. Nothing on this site depends on it, and the generator and every list work exactly the same with it blocked.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what data is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to its processing. Because this site holds no data about you itself, such a request is really a request to Google, and Google's privacy policy sets out how to make one. If you would rather ask here first, use the contact route on the about page.
Children
This site is aimed at people starting a business and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect anything from anyone.
Changes
If this site ever adds something that collects more, for example a contact form, an email list or advertising, this page will be updated before that goes live and the date at the foot will change.
Who runs this site
To supply: the publisher name, the business entity if there is one, the country it operates from, and a contact email address. These are the details a privacy policy is expected to carry, and they have deliberately not been invented.
This page describes how this site works. It is not legal advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from somebody qualified to give it in your jurisdiction.
